BOISE, Idaho, January 23, 2009 - Luke Jackson had 26 points and seven rebounds to help the Idaho Stampede defeat the Colorado 14ers 129-111 in Boise on Friday Night. Idaho improves to 16-7 with the win, while Colorado drops to 13-7.
In a game with zero lead changes, Idaho controlled the tempo from the start, going into the half with a 65-47 advantage over the 14ers. The Stampede utilized a strong inside presence to sustain their lead, outscoring Colorado 62-46 inside the paint.
Idaho benefited from a well-balanced offensive effort, finishing with six players in double-figures. Dwayne Jones posted 25 points, shooting 72% (8-11) from the field and grabbed 13 rebounds. Jamaal Tatum finished with 23 points, while Lance Allred added 19 points in the win. Lanny Smith, in his first start at home, provided great energy for the Stampede, scoring 15 points and dishing out six assists. Idaho shot an outstanding 60% from the field and 55% from beyond the arc.
"I'm pleased with the all around effort from our entire team," said Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates. "We knew we had to make adjustments due to the recent player transactions and I feel like we did. I've been a big fan of Lanny Smith from day one and tonight he showed me why."
Colorado finished the game with seven players scoring in double-figures. Trey Gilder came off the bench to lead all scorers in the game, finishing with 27 points. Eddie Gill and Billy Thomas recorded 18 and 16 points, respectively, for the 14ers. Dominique Coleman finished with a double-double, adding 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Stampede take on the Fort Wayne Mad Ants tomorrow at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm MST. Colorado returns home to face the Erie BayHawks on Tuesday night.
