St. Pierre Named Goaltender of the Year
April 8, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â The West Coast Hockey League announced today that Condors Goaltender Kevin St. Pierre has been named the Goaltender of the Year, as selected by the coaches, general managers and media from around the league.
St. Pierre, who turned 28 years old yesterday, put together a stellar season. He led the WCHL in games (56), wins (36), minutes (3,315), saves (1,543), save percentage (.929) and goals against average (2.14). He finished second in the league with four shutouts. Last week he was named to the All-WCHL Team along with teammate Paul Willett, and was named the WCHL Goaltender of the Week eight times.
The Sherbrooke, Quebec native had the greatest season of any goaltender in franchise history. He has established new records for games played, minutes, wins, GAA and save percentage. He tied his own personal mark with 36 wins this season, and trails the franchise career record by just three. His four shutouts tied the franchise record, set last season by Scott Hay.
Bakersfield has picked up five awards this season, including the two by St. Pierre, Willett's All-WCHL Team bid, and two players landing on the WCHL All-Rookie Team. Both D Jonas Lennartsson and C Jason Jackman received those honors.
The Condors will host Games One and Two of the 2003 Taylor Cup Playoffs against the rival San Diego Gulls on April 11th and 12th. Everyone in attendance on Friday night will receive Condors ThunderStix, sponsored by KGET-TV 17, Clear Channel Radio and the Active 20/30 Club. Saturday's game features a "Jersey Off Our Backs" raffle and auction for the Condors "Go Army" warm up jerseys. The proceeds from the auction will go to the Active 20/30 Club, to benefit local children's charities.
Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season tickets and group outings may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
Condors droppings: Colonel Claw'd has been kidnapped! He was abducted by a couple of shady characters dressed in Gulls jerseys and is being held for $10,000 ransom, all of which will benefit Junior Achievement of Bakersfield. JA will be selling playoff tickets for Games 1 and 2 against San Diego for $5.00, half of which will go directly to JA. To order tickets, or for more information, call Junior Achievement at 328-9373.
