St. Louis City SC News Release
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis CITY SC acquired left back Anthony Markanich from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for $75,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money and CITY SC's 2024 natural First round SuperDraft with an additional $75,000 in 2024 GAM if conditional incentives are reached.
Markanich, 23, was selected by Colorado 26th overall (first round) in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft after a four-season career at Northern Illinois University. He made his Major League Soccer debut on May 23, 2022 as he started and played the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders. In a year-and-a-half with the Rapids, Markanich recorded 17 matches across all competitions. He also spent time with MLS NEXT Pro-side Rapids 2, tallying 19 matches.
While at Northern Illinois, Markanich was a three-time First-Team All-MAC honoree. The left back made 67 appearances for the Huskies, registering 17 goals and adding 24 assists, the latter of which are tied for second-most in program history.
"We are pleased to bring Anthony back to the Midwest," St. Louis CITY SC Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel said. "He is a hard-worker and an aggressive left back, who will bolster our depth at the backline. We are excited to see Anthony continue to develop as a professional with us."
