Atlanta United FC News Release
ATLANTA - Atlanta United today announced it has signed forward Jamal Thiaré as a free agent through the 2024 season. The Senegalese striker will occupy an international roster slot pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.
"Jamal's profile is one that translates well to this league and will complement the group of players that we'll have for the final stretch of the season," Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. "He's a veteran striker who has been a proven goal scorer throughout his career and we're looking forward to having him bolster our attack."
The 30-year-old forward was born in Kaolack, Senegal and later moved to Belgium where he began his professional career at Sporting Charleroi. Thiaré had an assist in his Jupiler Pro League debut as Charleroi defeated OH Leuven 3-0. He scored his first professional goal in the final match of the season against KV Mechelen. The following season, the forward made 13 appearances across all competitions before being loaned to French side U.S. Avranches for the 2014-2015 campaign.
In the summer of 2015, Thiaré made the permanent switch to Avranches where he would stay for three seasons. His breakout season came in 2017-18 when he won the Golden Boot in the Championnat National league with 14 goals in 29 matches played. That success earned him a move up to Le Havre AC in Ligue 2.
The Senegalese forward made 29 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and adding three assists in his first season with Le Havre. He established himself as a starter the following season, scoring eight goals in 20 Ligue 2 starts. This past season, Thiaré contributed four goals and five assists helping Le Havre win the Ligue 2 title and earn promotion back to Ligue 1 for the first time since the 2008-09 season. In his five seasons with Le Havre AC, Thiaré totaled 31 goals and 18 assists in 129 appearances across all competitions.
