
Minnesota United to Face Columbus Crew in Leagues Cup Round of 32

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Minnesota United announced today that the club will face fellow MLS side, Columbus Crew, in the Leagues Cup Round of 32 on Friday, August 4 at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio. Kick is set for 7:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
After both its Group Stage matches, Minnesota United clinched a spot in the Knockout Round with three points, advancing on points over Club Puebla. As the Loons finished in second in the Central 2 group behind Chicago Fire FC, they will take on the winner of Central 1, claimed by the Crew after its 4-1 victory over Club America (LIGA MX) on Monday night.
In its MLS history, Minnesota United have played the Columbus Crew five times across all competitions, holding a 2-3-0 (W-L-D) record. In regular-season action, MNUFC has defeated the Crew once since 2017 with four goals scored compared to six allowed. The last time the two MLS sides met was in September of 2020, where Minnesota fell in a narrow 2-1 defeat at Historic Crew Stadium. Robin Lod scored the lone goal for the Loons that evening. As it stands, the Columbus Crew sit sixth in the Eastern Conference, with a 10-7-6 (W-L-D) record and 36 points and Minnesota United are in 10th in the Western Conference, holding a 7-8-7 record with 28 points.
