Salt Lake City Stars News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars struggled to find a rhythm on the offensive end of the floor as the Austin Spurs cruised to a convincing 125-104 road victory at Bruin Arena on Wednesday night.
Carsen Edwards led the Stars starting unit with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, while Yoeli Childs came off the bench to notch his eighth double-double in a Stars uniform with 23 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Childs has tallied a double-double in seven of the last eight games.
The Stars struggled shooting the basketball throughout the first half, going 16-of-48 (33.3 percent) from the floor, and finishing the first half with a season-low 41 points. The Spurs led 63-41 at the half.
The struggles continued in the second half as the Spurs used smothering defense and active hands to force the Stars into eight second half turnovers, which they converted into 14 points.
Austin was led by San Antonio Spurs Two-Way player Joe Wieskamp with 30 points and seven assists on 11-of-19 shooting and 6-of-11 from deep. Jordan Murphy added 17 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks for the Spurs, who move to 6-7 on the season.
Hours after signing a Two-Way contract with the Utah Jazz, Xavier Sneed made his Stars debut. The former Charlotte Hornets forward showed off his explosive athleticism and deep three-point range tallying six points and four assists in just over 24 minutes.
The Stars will head into the All-Star break with their next bout coming on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 23 against the Iowa Wolves at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Stars will return home on Monday, Feb. 28 for a rematch against the Iowa Wolves. The game will be streamed on NBAGLeague.com and can be heard locally on 97.5/1280 AM The Zone. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
Tickets for the Stars showdown against the Wolves are available at SLCStars.com or by phone (via call or text) at (801) 325-STAR (7827).
