Vipers Snap Sioux Falls Three-Game Winning Streak

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - In a rematch of Tuesday's game the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (12-5), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, obtained a 127-117 victory over Sioux Falls Skyforce (7-11) on Thursday night at Sanford Arena.

During the majority of the first quarter it was unclear which team would pull away with the lead. After multiple lead changes both teams continued to push to come out on top. With just a three-point difference, the Vipers would take control of the quarter with a score of 35-32.

RGV began the second quarter with the lead, but for an instant Sioux Falls managed to take the lead away. However, the Vipers came back and took over the quarter, but not for long as the Skyforce would go on to tie the game 54-54. RGV would fight back and eventually take control of the game sending it into halftime with a score of 60-56.

The Vipers pushed the limits in the third quarter as the team went on to score 44 points and shut down the home team by only allowing them to score 22 points resulting in a 104-78 lead for RGV.

Sioux Falls put up a fight in the last quarter as they scored 39 points while only allowing the Vipers to score 23 points. The Skyforce fought until the end buzzer, but the Vipers driving force led them to a 127-117 win.

All five of the starters for the Vipers reached double digits in scoring. Gerald Green once again led the Vipers by reaching a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Mfiondu Kabengele added 20 points and seven rebounds. Anthony Lamb posted 19 points and five rebounds followed by Houston Rockets Two-Way player Trevelin Queen with 18 points and seven rebounds. Houston Rockets assignee Daishen Nix finished the game with 15 points and eight assists. Marcus Foster came off the bench and reached 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.

DJ Stewart was the lead scorer for Sioux Falls with 30 points. Miami Heat Two-Way player Javonte Smart added 21 points and five assists. Sam Thompson racked up 17 points. Mario Chalmers tallied 16 points and eight assists. Micah Potter put up 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Vipers will head into the All-Star break and will be back in action on Wednesday, February 25 to take on the Texas Legends at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. CT. For more information visit www.rgvipers.com.
