Spitters Split Season Series Finale

Madison, WI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters win game three of the series against the Madison Mallards, 7-4. The Pit Spitters record improves to 31-19, and 9-6 in the second half.

The Spitters offense began clicking instantly in the top of the first, as Alec Atkinson singled followed by a Glenn Miller double to put runners on second and third. Starting pitcher Jake Hilton threw a wild pitch, allowing Atkinson to score to give the Pit Spitters an early 1-0 lead. Evan Orzech and Parker Brosius drew back-to-back walks to start the top of the fourth inning. Chad McCann threw a wild pitch, moving the runners up to second and third. Then, Camden Traficante hit a sacrifice fly to extend the Pit Spitters lead 2-0. Andrew Mannelly continued the hit parade, leading off the top of the fifth with a single. Alec Atkinson made it a 4-0 game on a two-run home run, his first of the year. Orzech and Traficante walked to get the offense going in the top of the sixth. Mannelly hit a double to right field scoring Orzech, to make it 5-0. Crighton extended the Pit Spitters lead to 6-0 on a single to shortstop. The Mallards offense started up in the bottom of the seventh, with Canyon Brown reaching base on a throwing error made by third baseman Glenn Miller. Goolsby walked, followed by Cal Fisher reaching base on a fielding error made by Traficante to load up the bases. Kyler Schroedle cleared the bases on a double to left center to cut into the Pit Spitters lead 6-3. In the top of the ninth, Miller and Colin Summerhill hit back-to-back singles. Orzech reached on a fielding error made by Ryan Sprock loading the bases with two outs. Miller came in to score on a wild pitch thrown by Cameron Clines, to extend the Pit Spitters lead 7-3. Madison wasn't going down without a fight, as Jake Goolsby and Fisher started the inning with a single. Jackson Tucker singled, scoring Goolsby, to make it 7-4.

The Pit Spitters improve to 31-19 on the season and 9-6 in the second half, while the Mallards drop to a 24-23 overall record and 8-5 in the second half. Pit Spitters starting pitcher, Nico Saldias threw five innings of one hit ball, striking out five, and earning the win. Hayden Jactzak threw an inning and two thirds, giving up a hit, and a walk. Jared Ure threw an inning and a third out of the bullpen, giving up a hit. Mitch White came in for the final inning of the game and gave up a run on one hit.

The Pit Spitters have the second off day of the season tomorrow, but will be back in action on Tuesday night, as they travel to Rockford to take on the Rivets in a two-game series.
