Spitfires Beat Flint 6-2
November 3, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
It was the Matt Maggio show in Flint. The forward from Tecumseh, Ontario had 4 points including a hat-trick in a 6-2 win over the Firebirds.
It did not take the Spitfires long for them to get on the board, just 3:15 to be exact. On the powerplay Sobolev slid the puck to Maggio and his shot was knocked down in front and slapped home by Miedema for his third of the season. ÃÂ Just four minutes later Maggio scored his first of the night with O'Flaherty and Ride drawing the assists. Just 57 seconds later Flint scored to bring the game within one. Late in the frame Maggio potted home his second goal on a sweet feed from Johnston to put the Spitfires up 3-1 after twenty minutes of play. Spitfires lead in shots 15-8 after the period.
In the 2nd period, Maggio split the defense with a great move and scored five-hole for his hat-trick goal. Ride recorded his 2nd assist of the night. That was the only goal of the period and the Spitfires trailed 23-22 in shots after two periods.
In the third period the scoring kept on coming. McDonald scored just over four minutes into the period to put the Spitfires up 5-1. Just over three minutes later Flint scored to make it a 5-2 game. And with under 7 minutes left to play McDonald scored his 2nd of the game and seal the deal.
The Spitfires next home game is this Saturday as we celebrate honour Remembrance Day. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm as the Spits take on the Erie Otters.
