November 3, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sarnia Sting News Release
Sarnia, Ontario - A date circled on the calendar of Sarnia Sting fans each year will officially return following it's pause due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
The Sarnia Sting in partnership with Lambton Ford and CHOK will look to score big for charity as the 24th edition of the Sarnia Sting Teddy Bear Toss is set for Sunday, December 5, 2021 when the Kitchener Rangers visit the Hive to take on the Sting for a 2 pm puck drop. Tickets for kids are just $8 plus hst, with all ages tickets available in the Energy Zone for $15 plus hst and can be purchased online here or by calling the Mainstreet Credit Union Sarnia Sting Box Office at 519 541 1717 x 1.
As tradition has it, when the Sarnia Sting score their first goal, the gracious fans respond by tossing their stuffed toys onto the ice. The toys are gathered from the ice and then transported to Lambton Ford to go on display until the stuffed toy makes its' way to its' new home. Over the past 24 years the Sarnia Sting and Lambton Ford have helped to collect over 70,250 stuffed toys, distributed to those who need it most in our community.
In 2017, Sting forward Curtis Egert scored to make 4,234 bears fly, a Teddy Bear Toss record. In the history of the event, no Sting player has ever repeated scoring the coveted goal in back-to-back seasons. With Sean Josling graduating from Junior Hockey, this trend will continue with a new goal scorer this season.
These special gifts have reached the hearts of many local families through the efforts of local charity partners: Salvation Army - Inn of the Good Shepard - Sarnia Kinsmen - Pathways Children's Center - Neighbour Link - Women's Interval Home - Pregnancy Crisis Center - Operation Christmas Tree - Bluewater Children's Foundation - St Joseph's Hospice - Children's Aid Society - Rebound plus St Clair Child & Youth.
The Sarnia Sting and Lambton Ford would like to thank those who help make this event a success each year and the fans who continue to support it.
"We are very grateful to have the opportunity to hold this wonderful community event once again. The Teddy Bear Toss holds a special place in the heart of this community, and we are proud to align with Rob Ravensberg & Lambton Ford to come together to help those who may need it." Comments Sarnia Sting President Bill Abercrombie.
"The annual Teddy Bear Toss has been a tradition in Sarnia / Lambton County since 1998. This year allows us once again to support this tradition The the ongoing support from the Sarnia Sting & Blackburn Radio we have been able to continue to host an event on an annual basis. Our community has always shown their generosity & kindness by supporting this cause. Together we have collected over 70,000 donations since the inception of this program, and we are proud to say that all these gifts have stayed in our community to help support the less fortunate during the holiday season. On December 5th let's fill the rink with fans and stuffed toys! A special thanks to everyone that has supported this cause over the years." Comments Lambton Motors President Rob Ravensberg.
