Spirit Suffer 6-3 Loss To IceDogs

(Niagara, ON) The Saginaw Spirit lost to the Niagara IceDogs 6-3 Thursday night at the Gatorade Garden City Complex in Niagara, Ontario. Saginaw's Barry Sanderson, Ivan Telegin and Cody Sol each tallied a goal in the effort. The loss moves Saginaw's record to 13-6-2-0 with 28 points.

The Spirit would seize the advantage in the early part of the game courtesy a two goal effort in the first period. Center Barry Sanderson opened scoring 1:44 into the contest, thanks to assists from winger Joe Pleckaitis and center Tyler Murovich. Rookie Ivan Telegin would then tally his fifteenth goal of the season off of an assist from winger Jordan Skellett, moving the score to 2-0. The IceDogs's Dougie Hamilton would respond in the final minute of the period however, reducing the deficit to 2-1 with a goal assisted by winger Andrew Agozzino. Niagara evened the contest in the second period, with winger Michael Hasson scoring his first of the season at the 8:50 mark. Winger Johnson Andrews assisted on the goal.

The third period would open with both teams swapping unassisted goals, the first goal of the frame coming at the 2:54 mark from IceDogs winger Marco Insam. Defenseman Cody Sol (NHL ATLANTA THRASHERS) scored an unassisted goal a little under two minutes later, at 4:51 in the third, to even up the score 3-3.

The IceDogs would take the win however, with three consecutive goals in the later part of the third period giving them a 6-3 victory. Niagara defenseman Reggie Traccitto scored a power play goal at 13:07 in the period, with assists from Aggozzino and Hamilton. Aggozzino would score his fourth point of the night with a power play goal late in the third period at the 14:55 mark, courtesy assists from defenseman Matt Petgrave and Traccitto. Niagara's final goal came from winger Andrew Fritsch at 18:44 in the frame, with the assists being credited to Hamilton and defenseman Shayne Rover.

Saginaw goalie Anthony Peters posted 40 saves on 46 shots. Petteri Simila worked the net for Niagara, earning 29 saves on 32 shots.
