Spirit Shutout Ice Dogs 7-0 on Lees Hat Trick

The Saginaw Spirit controlled the action in Mississauga from the face off to the final whistle in a 7-0 shutout Friday night. Spirit goaltender Mike Brown recorded his fourth shutout of the season. Spirit forward Nick Lees turned in a four point night with a hat trick and an assist. Spirit defenseman Georgi Misharin turned in a three point night. Four other Spirit players contributed two points. (Sean Courtney, Jesse Gimblett, Justin McCutcheon, Mike Suggs).

The Spirit opened scoring in the first period on the power play, when Nick Lees buried a loose puck in front of the Ice Dogs net. Forward Jesse Gimblett made it 2-0 three minutes later. The Spirit picked up scoring in the second period on an even strength goal from Tom Pyatt, which chased the Ice Dogs' starting goalie from the net. Georgi Misharin would make it 4-0 six minutes later when he fired a shot in from the blue line that trickled into the net. The Spirit would score three times more in the third period, twice from from Nick Lees for the hat trick, and once with 20 seconds remaining from Mike Suggs.

Spirit goaltender Mike Brown turned back 36 shots in the effort for the shutout. The win takes the Spirit record to 13-34-2-3 on the season. The Spirit return to ice on Saturday at 7:30 against the Erie Otters in Erie.
