Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
KINGSTON, ON â The Toronto St. Michael's Majors jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead this evening in Kingston before letting the Frontenacs respond with five goals of their own to take the game 5-2. With the loss, the Majors' record slips to 26-18-6-2. However, with Barrie inactive this evening, they retain their three-point cushion over the Colts. And, with Mississauga losing to Saginaw, the Majors stay five points back in the race for the Central Division crown.
Colin Power got Toronto on the board 7:21 into the game with assists credited to Ryan Wilson and Ryan Rorabeck. Then, Rorabeck connected just over five minutes later with helpers provided by Sal Peralta and Scott Lehman. However, it was all downhill from there for the boys in double-blue.
In the 2nd period, the Frontenacs' Anthony Stewart notched his 25th goal of the season at the 1:12 mark. Then, Eric Himelfarb struck at 5:50 on the power-play and, once again 23 seconds into the 3rd period. Bryan Rodney and Danny McDonald rounded out the scoring for the home squad at 3:41 and 10:29 (power-play), respectively. Assists on the Kingston goals came courtesy of Stewart, Himelfarb, Rodney, McDonald, Kyle Raftis, Brad Horan (2), Bill Kinkel and Scott Maher.
Unlike the Frontenacs, the Majors struggled on the man-advantage, going 0 for 8. Justin Peters got the start for Toronto and made 28 saves while Dayne Davis turned aside 28 of his own for the Frontenacs. The game's three stars were Himelfarb (1st), Stewart (2nd) and Davis (3rd).
This game marked the end of the Majors' six-game road trip, which saw them go 3-1-1-1. They will return home to face the Plymouth Whalers tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, February 7th) at 2:00 pm. Then, they will host the Saginaw Spirit on Sunday afternoon (February 8th) at 2:00 pm. All games are available via webcast on the Majors' web site, www.stmichaelsmajors.com. Individual game tickets can be purchased at the St. Michael's College School Arena box office, by calling Ticketmaster at (416) 872-5000 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca.
During the month of February, paper hearts will be sold at Majors' home games for a minimum donation of $2 as part of the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Paint the Town Red campaign. Donors may honour loved ones by writing their names on the hearts, which will be posted throughout the St. Michael's College School Arena during the month-long initiative.
