
Otters drop third straight in OT

Mike Letizia scored with just six seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Plymouth Whalers to a 5-4 win over the ERIE OTTERS in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,590 at the Tullio Arena.
Vaclav Meidl, Tim Sestito, John Vigilante and Brent Mahon netted the other Whalers goals.
Rane Carnegie collected three assists.
Rob Hisey paced the OTTERS with two goals and an assist. Geoff Platt and Ryan O'Marra, who forced the overtime with the tying goal with just four seconds remaining in regulation time, scored for the OTTERS. Sean O'Connor collected two assists.
Hisey extended his point-scoring streak to 13 games (8-18-26) with his performance while Platt has registered at least one point in all 12 games (11-6-17) as a member of the OTTERS.
Plymouth led 2-0 after one despite being out shot 10-2. The Whalers led 2-1 heading into the third. The OTTERS grabbed their only lead of the game in the opening four minutes of the third with a pair of goals. However, the Whalers answered midway through the period with two goals in 38 seconds to restore a one-goal lead at 4-3, setting the stage for O'Marra's last second equalizer.
The OTTERS slipped to 23-18-6-4 with their third straight OT loss.
The Whalers improved to 23-18-9-3 with the win and moved two points up on the OTTERS for fifth place in the Western Conference. The OTTERS hold two games in hand.
The OTTERS out shot the Whalers 41-19 in the game. Josh Disher started but surrendered two goals on two first-period shots and was replaced by Jhase Sniderman. Sniderman turned aside 14 of the 17 shots he faced. The three stars of the game were 1. Letizia; 2. Plymouth goalie Paul Drew and 3. Hisey.
Tomorrow night (Saturday) the OTTERS welcome the Saginaw Spirit (13-34-2-3 after a 7-0 win in Mississauga tonight) to the Tullio Arena for another 7:30 p.m. start presented by the PA Lottery with the first 1,000 adults receiving a free Big Buck Ticket courtesy of the PA Lottery.
