Barrie Wins Series 4-2

Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Thanks to Anthony Camara, the Barrie Colts are off to the second round of the playoffs while the season is over for the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors.
Camara scored the game and series winning goal with just 28 seconds left in overtime to lift the Colts to a 3-2 win over the Majors, ending Mississauga's season in heartbreaking fashion.
Barrie wins the best-of-seven opening round series 4-2 and will advance to the second round to play the Ottawa 67's. The Majors will be left to think about how close they were in getting to the second round themselves in what was largely a rebuilding season for them.
"I thought it was a heart wrenching way for the season to end for guys that put their whole heart into it," Mississauga General Manager/Coach James Boyd said. "I can't say enough about our effort tonight and for the whole series.
"We didn't get the bounces at times, but we kept on pressing and never quit. It was anybody's game and we have nothing to be ashamed of. I'm very proud of the players and I really feel for them, they are just devastated."
Game six was a fierce battle, with the teams scoreless after one period and tied 2-2 after 40 minutes. A tense and thrilling third period was scoreless and so was overtime until Camara completed a two-on-one, taking a pass from Steven Beyers to end the game.
Aaron Ekblad and Colin Behenna scored the other goals for Barrie while Jamie Wise and Mika Partanen scored the goals for the Majors. Riley Brace added two assists for the Majors, who out-shot the Colts 46-41 before a lively crowd of 3,516 fans at the Hershey Centre.
Mathias Niederberger made 44 saves in goal for the Colts while Brandon Maxwell stopped 38 shots for Mississauga.
The Majors dealt three veteran players away at the OHL trade deadline for six draft picks but still battled hard down the stretch and jumped into sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings by the end of the regular season. They also gave the Colts everything they could handle in this series.
"We made some tough decisions on January 10 but our veterans really stepped up and that's a tribute to their character," Boyd said. "It was a rebuilding year in a lot of ways but we still competed with the best teams in the league.
"We are in good shape moving forward and the players left it all on the ice. You really can't ask for anything more."
Wise opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 5:55 of the second period before Ekblad tied the game less than two minutes later. Partanen then restored the Majors lead at 17:01 before Behenna's power play goal with a minute left in the period left the scored tied 2-2 after 40 minutes.
Both teams had numerous scoring chances in the third period and overtime, but both goalies were brilliant until the Colts got a two-on-one in the final minute of overtime, with Camara getting the series winner.
"It's a tough way to lose, but full credit to the Colts," Boyd added. "It was a terrific hockey game."
The Majors would like to thank all of their fans and sponsors for an exciting season. Check www.stmichaelsmajors.com for off-season news, including the OHL Priority Selection on Saturday.
