Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

General Manager/Head Coach James Boyd and the Majors scouting staff were a busy crew on Saturday, selecting the 16 newest members of the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors organization.

The Majors selected nine forwards (five centres and four left wingers), four defencemen and three goaltenders. The draft began at 9 a.m. and didn't wind down until about 7 p.m.

Among the 16 selections, the Mississauga Rebels and Whitby Wildcats were represented the most with two players being chosen from each squad.

With their first choice of the 2012 Priority Selection, the Majors chose Damian Bourne, a 6'4, 185 pound left winger from the OHL Cup champion Mississauga Rebels. It was the third year in a row the Majors selected an Oakville, Ontario native in the first round (Spencer Martin '11, Stuart Percy '10).

Boyd was pleased at the opportunity to draft Bourne in the eleventh spot, as Central Scouting had him ranked seventh on their list.

"He's a big kid with a lot of ability and we're very pleased to be able to draft him," Boyd said.

"He's a local boy and we had a lot of opportunities to see him play here and we've seen that he can work hard shift-to-shift. We welcome him and his family to our team here in Mississauga."

Bourne scored 26 goals and 53 assists for 79 points in 62 games in the regular season for the Rebels, adding 89 penalty minutes. He was seventh on his team in OHL Cup tournament scoring, picking up five assists in seven games.

With the sixth pick of the second round (28th overall), the Majors selected Bobby MacIntyre from the Whitby Wildcats.

MacIntyre, a 5'10, 170 pound left winger was a member of the Wildcats squad which competed in the OHL Cup last month. He was second on the team in tournament scoring, picking up one goal and three assists for four points in four games.

The Oshawa, Ontario native scored 26 goals and 23 assists for 49 points in 32 games in the regular season, adding 34 penalty minutes.

With the 16th pick of the second round (38th overall), the Majors selected Jared Walsh from the Toronto Marlboros.

Walsh, a 5'10, 175 pound defenceman was a member of the GTHL champion Toronto Marlboros, scoring four goals and eleven assists for 15 points in the regular season with six penalty minutes. He participated in the OHL Cup last month where he registered three assists in seven games.

With the 15th pick of the third round (58th overall), the Majors selected Bradley Bell from the Copper Cliff Redmen.

Bell, a 5'10, 175 pound defenceman scored 15 goals and 43 assists for 58 points for the Redmen in the regular season, adding 37 penalty minutes.
