Spirit Build for the Future in OHL Priority Selection

The effort to build for the future for 20 OHL teams, including the Saginaw Spirit, takes shape today with the 2012 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection conducted via the internet. The Erie Otters got the ball rolling tabbing Connor McDavid, who was granted exceptional status by the league, as the first overall selection.

Jeremiah Addison - First Round, 12th Overall

Toronto Marlboros - Left Wing

Height: 5.11 Weight: 160 Goals: 28 Assists: 18 Points: 46 Penalty Minutes: 37

The Spirit began their selection process with the twelfth overall pick taking forward Jeremiah Addison from the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget program. Addison, a 28 goal shooter this past season, was a teammate of McDavid and Roland McKeown, the first two players selected in the draft. Addison is described as one of the best goal scorers and skaters in this year's draft.

Brandon Prophet - Second Round, 32nd Overall

Upper Canada Cyclones - Defense

Height: 6.03 Weight: 211 Games: 30 Goals: 8 Assists: 16 Points: 24 Penalty Minutes: 50

The Spirit had two selections in the second round and with the 32nd overall pick they went for size on the blueline bringing in defenseman Brandon Prophet. The 6.03, 210 pound rearguard recorded eight goals while suiting up for the Upper Canada Cyclones at the midget level. During the OHL Priority Selection Show through the league's website, Prophet was described as being arguably the most improved player available.

Dylan Sadowy - Second Round, 37th Overall

Vaughan Kings - Left Wing

Height: 6.00 Weight: 160 Games: 40 Goals: 14 Assists: 22 Points: 36

Saginaw then addressed the forward position once again with the 37th overall pick, taking Dylan Sadowy, who recorded 14 goals this past season as a member of the Vaughan Kings midget program.

Kris Bennett - Third Round, 50th Overall

North York Rangers - Left Wing

Height: 5.09 Weight: 145 Games: 30 Goals: 17 Assists: 14 Points: 31 Penalty Minutes: 18

Saginaw stayed in the Metro Toronto area with its first pick in the third round, selecting forward Kris Bennett from the North York Rangers midget ranks. Bennett scored 17 goals and averaged just over a point per game this past season, and was the 50th overall selection.

Trevor Abbott - Third Round, 62nd Overall

London Knights Gold - Defense

Height: 6.00 Weight: 178 Games: 41 Goals: 8 Assists: 37 Points: 45 Penalty Minutes: 34

With the Spirit's second pick in the third round, the selection was defenseman Trevor Abbott from the London Jr. Knights Gold Program. Abbott, brings offensive skill to the backend coming off an eight goal, 37 assist season in 41 games. Abbott's playing style is described as having the makeup to play in all situations and contribute to a powerplay.

Brandon Lukezic - Fifth Round, 99th Overall

Height: 6.01 Weight: 170 Games: 39 Goals: 1 Assists: 10 Points: 11

Connor Graham - Sixth Round, 114th Overall

Toronto Marlboros - Left Wing
