McCann Selected by Hounds in Round 1

With their 1st Round pick (4th overall) in today's OHL Priority Selection presented by StateFarm, the Soo Greyhounds selected centreman JARED MCCANN from the London Knights Minor Midget AAA Gold.
"Our organization is thrilled today to be able to add a hockey player of Jared's calibre and character. Over the course of the last 7 months, Jared's ability and his character have shone through each time we have watched him and we are proud to make him the 4th overall selection in the 2012 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection" stated GM Kyle Dubas.
McCann, a native of Stratford ONTARIO, stands 6'0" while weighing 175 lbs.In 67 regular season games played in 2011-12 he had 61 goals and 70 assists, good for 131 points and 32 penalty minutes and a +141 rating. Jared and his teammates defeated the Sun County Panthers to capture the Alliance Championship this past season.At the OHL Cup, the left-shooting centreman tallied 2 goals and 8 assists good for 10 points in 5 games played.
"Jared is a player who plays hard every shift in all zones of the ice, as evident by his stat line this season for the London Jr. Knights. As an organization, we set out 12 months ago to build a certain culture with a very specific type of character player and an identity on the ice and off the ice.In Sault Ste. Marie, it is imperative that our best players are also our hardest workers. As a result, when we draft a player at 4th overall we must be certain that his character, work ethic, ability, and values are in line with the culture that we continue to build. In our evaluations of Jared on the ice and off the ice, there was no doubt that he was the best fit for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds" concluded Dubas.

The Greyhounds will now pick 12th (34th overall) in Round 2.

"Jared is a very electric type of player. In a single shift he has the ability to take over a game with his intimidating speed and skill. He is one of the best skaters in this draft. He has a very explosive first two or three strides which allows him to reach full speed very quickly . Jared is going to be a goal scorer at the next level because he already possesses a junior level shot. He has a very high compete level and you very rarely see him take a shift off. He always has his feet moving which makes him very hard to defend against."
