
Ontario Hockey League Completes 2012 Priority Selection

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today conducted the 2012 OHL Priority Selection presented by State Farmî for players born between January 1, 1993, and December 31, 1996.
A total of 303 players were selected in the 15-round process from 84 different programs across Ontario and parts of the United States. The selected players included 167 forwards, 105 defencemen, and 31 goaltenders with a total of 154 players selected in the draft that competed in the 2012 OHL Cup Showcase Tournament.
The Ontario Minor Hockey Association led the way with 83 players selected from 22 different teams including 11 players from the York Simcoe Express. The Greater Toronto Hockey League had 76 players selected from 11 different teams with both the Toronto Marlboros and Mississauga Rebels leading all clubs with 15 players selected including five Marlies and four Rebels in the first round. There were 50 players selected from 25 different American programs including seven players selected from Detroit Belle Tire. The ALLIANCE had a total of 48 players selected representing 12 different clubs led by 10 players selected from the London Jr. Knights Gold program. In the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association, a total of 24 players were selected from five different teams including eight players chosen from the Ottawa Jr. 67's. The Northern Ontario Hockey Association had 15 players selected from five different teams including six players from the Sault Ste. Marie North Stars, while four players from the Thunder Bay Kings represented Hockey Northwestern Ontario. There were also three players selected from various other hockey programs in Canada.
"I would like to congratulate all 303 young men that were chosen in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection," said OHL Director of Central Scouting and Player Development Darrell Woodley. "You have all been identified by OHL member clubs as having the potential to succeed at the next level of your hockey careers. Be proud of this accomplishment, but also be prepared to continue working hard to make the most of this opportunity. I would also like to wish the best of luck to all of the players not selected today and hope for them to continue pursuing their hockey and academic goals."
This season marked the 12th straight year the Priority Selection was conducted by way of the internet, and fifth straight year with a live draft show of the first three rounds.
