
Rangers Select Matt Schmalz with First Round Pick

Head Coach and General Manager of the Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club Steve Spott has announced the team's first round pick, 17th overall in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection presented by State Farm(r) is Matt Schmalz of the Southern Tier Admirals Minor Midget.
Schmalz tallied 23 goals and 18 assists in 35 games for the Admirals during the 2011-12 regular season.
Rangers' scouting had this to say of Schmalz: Matt is a big right shot centreman who has the ability to control the play with excellent vision of the ice. He uses his size well and is able to detect the puck. He is a powerful skater that will add size to the Rangers line-up.
