
Spirit Fall to Spitfires 5-1

WINDSOR, ON, CAN - On Friday night, the Spirit visited the Windsor Spitfires to begin a home and home series. The Spirit dropped the first contest against the Spits back on October 1st by a score of 7-1. The Spirit dropped tonight's contest by a final score of 5-1.
In the first period, the West Division rivals set the tone early with Keaton Middleton and Logan Stanley dropping the gloves 1:10 into the contest. Windsor scored first at 7:23 when Arizona Coyotes prospect Christian Fisher found a small hole on Cormier's left-pad side. Windsor would strike again at 14:52, when Anthony Stefano followed up his own rebound to make it 2-0. Kris Bennett got the Spirit on the board late in the first, scoring his seventh goal of the season at 19:49. Connor Brown and Markus Niemelainen drew the helpers on Bennett's seventh goal of the season. The Spirit trailed 2-1 after the first period.
The physical play continued into the second period, as both teams jockeyed for position. Neither team scored in the period, but the Spirit ended the period with three point-blank chances on Spits goalie Garett Hughson.
The Spits took full control of the contest when Christian Fisher and Bradley Latour scored 1:27 seconds apart, to put Windsor up 4-1. Gabriel Vilardi added a goal at 9:19 to give the Spitfires a 5-1 lead. Behind the goaltending of Garrett Hughson, the Spits nursed to four goal advantage into the final buzzer.
