Spinners Enter All-Star Break on High Note

FISHKILL, NY - Joseph Monge went 5-for-5 to key a 15 hit Lowell Spinners offensive attack as the Spinners entered the New York-Penn League All-Star Break on a high-note, topping the Hudson Valley Renegades, 9-1, Sunday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium.
Lowell (30-32) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. After a one-out single and passed ball put Mauricio Dubon at second base, Jordan Betts delivered a run-scoring double to put the Spinners ahead.
The Spinners would add to their lead in the third inning after Raymel Flores led off the frame with a base hit. A one-out sacrifice moved Flores into scoring position and another Betts RBI double brought him in to give Lowell a 2-0 lead.
As Aaron Wilkerson held the Renegades at bay, the Spinners added single runs in the fourth, on an Alixon Suarez RBI double, fifth, on a Aneudis Peralta RBI triple, and sixth innings, on another Suarez double, to extend their lead to 5-0.
Hudson Valley (41-22) was able to push across a run in the seventh against Kuehl McEachern, but the Spinners exploded for four runs in the ninth to put the game away, taking advantage of a pair of Renegades errors plus run-scoring hits from Mike Meyers and Monge.
Monge had a career day at the plate, finishing with a third of the Spinners hits with a double and four singles. He scored two runs and added an RBI. Dubon added three hits and three runs scored, while Betts and Suarez each had two run-scoring doubles on the day.
Wilkerson (4-1, 2.06) went six shutout innings, extending his string of scoreless innings to 13 straight. He danced around seven hits and a walk, striking out four. McEachern was charged with the lone Hudson Valley run, allowing three hits while striking out three in two innings. Williams Jerez closed out the game with a hitless ninth, striking out a pair.
Betts, Dubon, Danny Mars and Carlos Pinales now head to Brooklyn for the New York-Penn League All-Star Game, while the remainder of the Spinners return to Lowell for two days off. The team next welcomes the Connecticut Tigers to town for a critical series for the Spinners' playoff hopes beginning Wednesday, August 20. Tickets for the game, which will be dubbed the "Artie T. Party" for Market Basket employees, remain available.
