
Tigers Sweep IronBirds in a Blowout

Norwich, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (34-29) defeated the Aberdeen IronBirds (21-41) by the final score of 11-1 Sunday evening at Dodd Stadium. The Tigers offense roughed up the IronBirds pitching for 11 runs on 18 hits. Besides the offense being as impressive as they were, RHP Confesor Lara (2-2) may have stolen the show. In his first game back since being recalled to Connecticut, Lara picked up his second win of the season as he pitched six shutout innings while giving up just two hits and struck out three batters.
Everyone in the starting lineup for the Tigers had at least one hit in the game. Five of the starting nine had two or more hits. 3B Steven Fuentes (4-5) might have been the most impressive offensive player in the game for Connecticut as he put together a four hit, two RBI performance along with two runs scored. SS Joey Pankake (2-5) had a two doubles and three RBIs in the win. LF Kasey Coffman (3-5) picked up his first three hit game of the season along with an RBI. The three to seven batters in the lineup were a combined 14-for-22 in the game along with 9 RBI's.
RHP Josh Heddinger made the start for the Tigers as he put together a quality three innings pitched in while giving up one run on two hits before he was relieved by Lara. Heddinger started against his for college teammate at Georgia Tech, RHP Matthew Grimes (1-3). Grimes lasted only three innings and gave up five runs on seven hits in his third loss of the season for Aberdeen.
Tomorrow is a league wide off day for the NYPL. The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, August 20th with a two-game road series with the Lowell Spinners. The pre-game show begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and cttigers.com
