Lowell Spinners News Release

WILLIAMSPORT, PENN. - The Lowell Spinners jumped out to an early lead, holding Williamsport hitless through the first four innings, but the CrossCutters fought back and handed the Spinners a 6-5 defeat to start the team's six-game road-trip Tuesday night at Bowman Field.

Lowell (18-19) took an early lead in the first inning with a pair of triples. After Luis Alexander Basabe led off the game with a triple and a one-out pitch to the body of Victor Acosta, Chad De La Guerra tripled to center to give the Spinners a 2-0 lead.

The Spinners would add a run in the third inning with Basabe leading the way. After a lead-off single, Basabe stole second and moved to third on a groundout. An Acosta sacrifice fly gave Lowell a 3-0 lead.

Williamsport (25-12) would get a pair back in the third inning as the base on balls continued to plague the Spinners. After a strikeout to lead off the inning, back-to-back walks put a pair on. A throwing error by Josh Ockimey plated a run and after a wild pitch a sacrifice fly cut the Lowell lead to one.

After four no-hit innings, Javier Rodriguez gave way to Daniel Gonzalez and the CrossCutters pounced. A lead-off single was compounded when Gonzalez threw away the play at first on an attempted sacrifice bunt. Venn Biter followed with a double to plate a pair and give Williamsport a 4-3 lead. Basabe cut down Biter at third on an attempted sacrifice fly, a play Acosta left the game on, to get the Spinners out of the inning.

The Spinners would tie things up in the sixth on an RBI single by Ockimey and re-take the lead on a bases loaded walk by Andrew Benintendi to put Lowell ahead, 5-4. The lead was short-lived however as a two-out home run by Gregori Rivero put the Cutters ahead for good.

While Rodriguez struggled with his control, walking four, he did not allow a hit. He was charged with two runs, one earned, while striking out five over four innings. Gonzalez (2-2, 3.34) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out two, in four innings.

Basabe picked up two hits atop the Spinners line-up, as did Ockimey, while De La Guerra drove in a pair.

The Spinners look to even the series Wednesday night when Luis Ramos gets the ball for a 7pm first pitch.
