LOWELL, Mass. - The State College Spikes could not overcome a deep deficit early in the game as they took an 11-2 defeat at the hands of the Lowell Spinners on Friday night at Edward A. LeLacheur Park.

David Vinsky recorded the lone multi-hit game for the Spikes (23-24), while an error and a Donivan Williams bases-loaded walk scored the State College runs in the eighth.

State College fell behind 9-0 in the first three innings as Lowell (30-16) scored three runs in the first before exploding for five runs in the second and another run in the third.

Alex Erro keyed the Spinners' early surge with hits in each of the first three frames, along with two runs batted in, two runs scored and a stolen base. Marino Campana and Joe Davis each produced two-runs doubles as well.

Spikes starter Scott Politz (2-3) took the loss after yielding nine runs, seven on them earned, on eight hits, three walks and a hit batsman. Politz struck out three batters in the effort.

Hector Villalobos took over for Politz and threw 3 1/3 one-run innings of relief, striking out five batters in the process. Eric Lex finished the night with two perfect innings that included three strikeouts, giving him nine straight scoreless innings over his last five outins.

Lowell reliever Yasel Santana (1-1) earned credit for the win after yielding two runs, one of them earned, over 2 1/3 innings. Santana allowed one hits and three walks while striking out four batters.

The win enabled Lowell to maintain the New York-Penn League's best record.
