Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MA - After their bats were limited to just four hits in their last game, the Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, were looking to get back in the win column when they took on the State College Spikes, affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, in their first home game in almost two weeks.

Following an eruption of nine runs in the first three innings, the Spinners (30-16) were able to do so - defeating the Spikes (23-24) by a final margin of 11-2 in their first home game in 11 days.

It all got started in the first inning when Stephen Scott singled home Alex Erro, making it 1-0. Following a Joe Davis lineout and Jonathan Diaz walk, Lowell tacked on two more when Marino Campana delivered a two-run double scoring Diaz and Scott from first and second, respectively, making it 3-0.

The Spinners kept it going in the bottom of the second inning when they drove in five more. The first came when Erro singled up the middle, scoring Ricardo Cubillan. Davis kept it going when he went to the opposite field for a double, scoring Erro and Cameron Cannon who was making his debut at designated hitter.

Campana put the icing on the cake - reaching on a throwing error by State College third baseman Luis Flores, scoring Scott and Davis. Just like that it was 8-0.

Erro drove one more in in the third inning on another single, that scored Cubillan. Cubillan contributed an RBI of his own in the bottom of the sixth inning on a ground out with the bases loaded and shortstop Antoni Flores made it 11-0 when he drove Campana in on a single up the middle of his own.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Spikes scored two runs, but that was nowhere near enough to make the game close.

Chris Murphy got the start on the mound for the Spinners and pitched well - tossing four shutout innings, while only allowing four hits and striking out four. Brendan Cellucci followed with a shutout inning of his own, striking out a batter of his own.

Yasel Santana was the one who picked up the win, however - his first with Lowell - going 2.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned), on one hit. He also struck out four and walked three.

Erro finished the game 3-for-5, with two runs scored and two RBIs.
