Bakersfield Condors News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (9-6-1-0, 19 pts) scored two power play goals and completed a home-and-home series sweep of the Bakersfield Condors (5-13-2-0, 12pts) with a 2-1 win at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Sunday evening.
F Matt Tassone staked the Reign to a 1-0 lead at the 5:39 mark of the first period on the power play as he scooped a rebound past G Bryan Pitton. The Condors created offensive opportunities on two power plays of their own, but were unable to capitalize and the period ended with Ontario ahead 1-0. Shots were even at 16 apiece.
The second period went scoreless as both goaltenders played strong at both ends of the ice. D Justin Pender earned his first Condors fighting major with a tilt against F Derek Couture as the period expired. Shots were 13-8 in favor of Ontario.
F Geoff Irwin scored the second Reign power-play goal of the night, 7:00 minutes into the third period, when he was left all alone in the low slot to snap a shot past Pitton. The goal extended the Ontario lead to 2-0. D Justin Pender scored a rarely seen six-on-three power play goal at the 18:58 mark to cut the deficit to 2-1.
