Chicago Express News Release
Trenton, NJ - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, scored on the power play, the penalty kill, and at even strength to defeat the Titans 4-3 at the Sun National Bank Center on Sunday afternoon.
RW Pierre-Luc Faubert started the scoring in the game after forcing a turnover in the neutral zone while shorthanded. Faubert then took the puck up the right wing and snapped the puck over the blocker of G Dave Caruso with 6:51 left in the frame to give Chicago a 1-0 lead. F Bobby Robins increased the lead to 2-0 after a tic-tac-toe passing play on the power play led to a slap shot from D Darcy Campbell, and Robins tipped in the shot at 1:13 as the Express carried the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Titans cut the Express lead in half 3:11 into the second period. F Rob Bordson picked off a Chicago clearing pass and snapped a shot from the slot past G Rob Nolan bringing the score to 2-1. Chicago re-established their two goal lead 3:38 later, when D Scott Wietecha scored his first professional goal on a slap shot from the right point. Trenton added one more before the end of the frame, however, when LW Andy Bohmbach placed a shot off the crossbar and into the net with a snap-shot from the slot. The power play goal was scored with 10:53 left in the second period. After two periods of play, the Titans owned a 20-8 shots on goal advantage.
Just 59 seconds into the third period, Robins added his second goal of the night after collecting his own rebound, wrapping around the net, and burying his second chance as he restored another two goal lead for Chicago. The Express held that lead until Bordson added his second goal with a wrist shot from the blue line that found its way past Nolan for the final 4-3 score. The Express were outshot 27 to 11 in the game.
