Special Teams Power Rays Past Sea Wolves 10-0

North Charleston, SC - Michael Neuvirth recorded his second shutout of the season and Maxime Lacroix got five points as the South Carolina Stingrays put up ten goals on the Mississippi Sea Wolves in their third game in as many days.

"We did a lot of the little things well tonight," said Stingrays Head Coach Jared Bednar. "I think we saw some very promising things that will hopefully translate into more wins down the road."

In the first period the Rays got the lead while killing of a penalty in the final minute. Brad Farynuk got his first goal of the season at 19:02 from Paul Kelly, a short handed goal giving the Stingrays a 1-0 lead going into the intermission.

South Carolina pulled away in the second period with five goals. At 3:11 of the period Travis Morin got his first goal of the night and his third of the season from his line mates Michael Dubuc and Lacroix to make it a 2-0 game. On their first power play opportunity the Rays scored at 4:15 when Matt Scherer got his second goal of the season tipping in a shot from Johan Kroll. Sasha Pokulok put in a rebound to make 4-0, his second goal of the season, and the second power play goal of the night for the Rays. At the 9:59 mark of the period, with the score 4-0 Stingrays, Mississippi pulled their starting goalie, Ryan Munce, in favor of their backup, Jeremy Duchesne. The Rays treated him no better as Lacroix would get his first goal of the night, his ninth of the year, on a breakaway shorthanded, for the second short handed goal of the night for South Carolina. He would pot another goal at 16:43 of the period on the power play to make it a 6-0 game at the end of two periods.

The Rays picked up where they left off in the third period when Scherer got his second goal of the night at 3:48 to make the score 7-0. Morin would get his second of the night as well at 8:35 to make it an 8-0 score. At the halfway point of the period, Scott Romfo got his first goal of the year, another short handed goal for the Stingrays. With three short handed goals, they are now tied for second most ever scored in a game in ECHL history. Less than four minutes later, at 13:21, Trent Campbell would cap off the scoring by getting his third goal of the year to make the score 10-0, the eventual final.

The winning goaltender was Neuvirth who stopped all 36 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Munce who stopped 23 of the 27 shots he faced in 29:59. His backup, Duchesne, stopped 16 of the 22 shots he faced in 30:01. The Rays went 3-4 on the power play while killing off all six short handed situations they faced.

The Rays will be back in action on Thanksgiving night when they play the first game of a three in three at Mississippi. Game time will be at 8:00 P.M. eastern time. You can hear the game live on ESPN 910 The TEAM starting with the Benitos pre-game show beginning at 6:45
