Checkers Jakaitis Stonewalls Gladiators In 1-0 Win

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers only needed one goal to defeat the Gwinnett Gladiators at home on Sunday afternoon as Mike Taylor supplied the lone goal and goaltender Jeff Jakaitis recorded his second shutout of the season.

The home team struck during the first period as Checkers forward Mike Taylor intercepted a Gwinnett clearing attempt and blasted a shot past the glove of Gladiators goalie Josh Johnson at 8:19 putting up the Checkers 1-0 after twenty minutes.

The second and third periods went scoreless despite great chances. Jakaitis made 31 saves on the evening to secure the shutout and give his team two points in the standings.

The Checkers are playing their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game will take place Nov. 25th night against the Mississippi Sea Wolves at 7 p.m. start. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
