Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Goaltender Craig Kowalski made 40 saves to lead the Phoenix RoadRunners to a 3-2 victory over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 6,655 fans at Rabobank Arena Saturday night. The loss snapped the Condors four-game unbeaten streak.

Both clubs came out a bit tentative in the first frame, and neither could get on the board. The Condors (6-8-2, 14pts) fired nine shots on net, compared to just six for Phoenix (9-6-2, 20pts), but both goaltenders - Ryan Nie for Bakersfield and Kowalski for the RoadRunners - remained perfect.

The physical play picked up in the second period, with over a dozen penalties called, including a tilt midway through the frame between Bakersfield D Scott Balan Phoenix F James McEwan. Daniels, however, scored both of his goals in the middle period, lighting the lamp on a pair of shorthanded breakaways, giving him six goals on the season. The Condors led in shots, 20-15 through 40 minutes. Forward Charlie Kronschnabel got the Condors on the board in the opening minute of the third period, as Bakersfield tried to claw back into the game. His second of the season, on a breakaway, made it 2-1 Phoenix. The RoadRunners regained the two-goal lead, however, with a tally by C Gino Guyer at 11:30. LW Mark Derlago made it a one goal game once more, with his ninth of the season at 17:45, but Kowalski and the RoadRunners held on for the 3-2 win. Derlago's goal extended his point streak to seven games, with 4g-9a-13pts during the stretch.

Notes from the Nest: After a Friday night match in Ontario against the Reign (7 p.m. start), the Condors return to the Mercy & Memorial Hospitals Home Ice on Saturday, Nov. 29 against the Idaho Steelheads. That night is the annual Teddy Bear Toss, sponsored by KBAK-29, KERN 1410 and Wells Fargo Bank. Doors open at 6 p.m., the puck drops at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to the game, and when the Condors score their first goal of the match, throw them onto the ice. The bears will be collected by the United Way and distributed throughout Kern County during the holiday season. Nearly 45,000 bears have been collected in the event's history.

In addition to being broadcast on ESPN Radio 1230, B2 Networks, and Bakersfieldcondors.com, Saturday's home game will also be televised live on Bright House Networks Ch. 21, and will be available On Demand on Ch. 300 starting Sunday.
