Stingrays Six Special-Teams Goals Sink Sea Wolves On Sunday

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - Brad Farynuk's shorthand goal at 19:02 of the first period stood as the game-winner as the Mississippi Sea Wolves were never able to break the seal on the South Carolina net as they fell 10-0 to the Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

A shorthand goal in the last minute of the first period gave the Stingrays a 1-0 lead, as Paul Kelly broke down the ice three-on-one with Keith Johnson and Brad Farynuk and dished a pass to Farynuk that he rifled over Ryan Munce's glove for a shorthand goal at 19:02.

The floodgates opened for South Carolina when Travis Morin potted his third goal of the season at 3:11 five-on-five, and then Michael Scherer and Sasha Pokulok would add power-play goals at 4:15 and 9:59 respectively to chase Sea Wolves starter Ryan Munce from the net.

South Carolina wasted no time getting to Jeremy Duchesne, who replaced Munce at the 9:59 mark of the second period, as Maxime Lacroix potted a shorthand goal at 12:21, and then hammered redirected a point shot from Zach Tarkir past Duchesne on the power-play at 16:43.

Bad went to worse for the Sea Wolves in the third period, as Scherer notched his second of the game at 3:48 of the third, Morin potted his second of the contest at 8:35, giving the Stingrays an 8-0 lead. Scott Romfo notched South Carolina's third shorthand goal of the game at 10:08 of the third period, and Trent Campbell's third goal of the season gave South Carolina a 10-0 lead at 13:21 of the third.

Ryan Munce made 23 saves on 29 shots in 29:59 of action, taking the loss, while Jeremy Duchesne stopped 16-of-22 shots he faced in 30:01 of action. The Sea Wolves power play was 0-for-6.

NOTEBOOK: Michael Couch missed his seventh consecutive game with a lower-body injury... Defensemen Chris Zarb and Mike Nesdill also did not play with lower-body injuries... Justin Coutu remains sidelined with an upper-body injury... Chase Trull has appeared in three games and is -1 with Philadelphia of the American Hockey League since being called up last weekend.
