Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - Special teams played a decisive role in today's matinee game as the Las Vegas Wranglers topped the ECHL-leading Alaska Aces 3-2 in a shootout.
Aces forward Shawn Skelly recorded his first goal of the season 11 minutes into the first to put Alaska up 1-0. The early lead held until the literal last second, when Wranglers defenseman Mike Madill tallied a power play goal with 1.1 second remaining in the period to tie the game 1-1.
The Wranglers took their first lead of the night less than five minutes into the second as Andrew Sarauer posted a shorthanded goal for the 2-1 advantage. Late in the period, Aces forward Nick Mazzolini got his team's game-tying shot in on Wranglers goaltender Joe Fallon for the 2-2 tie.
Fallon and Aces goaltender Mark Guggenberger held the third period scoreless and forced the contest into overtime. The extra five minutes saw no shots on net from either team, and with the lone shootout goal for Las Vegas, left wing Matt Carter secured the 3-2 victory for the Wranglers. In the win, Fallon saved 33 of 35 shots.
The Wranglers head east this weekend for a game against the Trenton Titans on Friday, Jan. 25, and two games against the Reading Royals on Jan. 26 and 27. The team returns home for a four-game series on Wednesday, Jan. 30, against the Bakersfield Condors, and promotions include a post-game concert by alt-country legend Todd Snider on Friday, Feb. 1, and "Over 18 Night" with the world's first professional topless hockey team on Monday, Feb. 4 at 9:05 p.m.
Celebrating 10 seasons of Wranglers hockey this year, group events are available at all home games, including pre-game ice skating parties, private luxury suites, and rink-side catered party boxes. Groups of ten or more can sit together starting at $13 per ticket, and feature perks such as in-game group recognition and "buy one, get one free" Chuck-A-Puck vouchers. Take advantage of the best deals by calling the Wranglers front office at (702) 471-PUCK . The Wranglers play all 36 regular season home games at Orleans Arena, located next to the Orleans Hotel and Casino at 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.
