Orlando and Wheeling meet up for the final time during the regular season, with the Solar Bears earning victories in each of the first two match ups. Orlando kicked off the first game of the three game series with a 7-2 win over the Nailers, which featured a five point game from Solar Bears F Michael Neal (2 goals, 3 assists). The Solar Bears followed it up with a dramatic victory on Saturday night, in front of 9,170 fans. Orlando came back from both 1-0 and 2-1 deficits during the contest, setting the stage for F Scott Tanski's overtime game-winning goal 2:27 into the sudden-death period.
Solar Bears Notes:
All 10 of Orlando's goals against the Nailers this series have come at even strength... The Solar Bears have held the Nailers to just one even strength goal this series... F Rob Mignardi and D Josh Caron returned to the Solar Bears before Saturday's game. Mignardi scored for Orlando during the first period... C Ryan Cruthers' second period goal was the 100th of his professional career... Orlando announced earlier this month that the Solar Bears will inform the League of their intentions to place a bid to host the 2015 All-Star Game. The meetings will be held in Loveland, Colorado, during the All-Star break this week... LW Nick Petersen was named to the ECHL All-Star Team earlier this month, making him the first Solar Bear to be selected as an ECHL All-Star. He will not be able to attend the game due to his recall to the AHL... Forward C.J. Severyn was named the the ECHL All-Star team last week.
Nailers Notes:
G Scott Darling is ninth in the league with a 2.55 GAA... The Nailers are missing their top two defensive scorers, as D Cody Wild and D Andrew Hotham are currently recalled to the AHL... The Nailers are the least penalized team in the ECHL averaging 12.59 PIM per game... Wheeling is 14-3-3 when scoring the game's first goal... Wheeling has the second-highest rated power play in the Eastern Conference at 21.2 percent. Thay have scored at least one power play goal in each game against Orlando... Wheeling has played the most games past regulation, going to overtime or a shootout 13 times this season... Wheeling is 5th on the power play at 21.2 percent (32-for-151) and 10th on the penalty kill at 83.0 percent (127-for-153)... F Paul Crowder leads the Nailers in goals (15), assists (17), and points (32).
