Chesapeake Baysox News Release
July 27, 2006 - Bowie, MD - Five SeaWolves home runs and a six run seventh inning sunk the Baysox Thursday evening in front of a crowd of 2,454 at Prince George's Stadium.
Baysox starter Brian Finch got off to a rocky start in his third start against the Erie SeaWolves this season. Finch walked the lead off batter, former Tiger Nook Logan, who came around to score on Chris Maples' RBI single to left.
After drawing a two out walk in the bottom of the first, Jeff Fiorentino evened the score, scoring on Cory Keylor's 46th RBI of the season.
Erie jumped to a 4-1 lead with two home runs, one in the fourth and a two run shot in the fifth but the Baysox chipped away at the SeaWolves' lead in the sixth inning.
After starting his Major League rehab stint going 0-12, Jay Gibbons picked up his second hit of the night - a broken bat single into shallow right field and advanced to third on Keylor's single into right field. Gibbons came home on Leo Daigle's ground ball deep into the hole at shortstop.
Reliever Richard Stahl replaced Finch in the seventh but the visitors blew the game wide open with six runs off the former number one draft pick.
Stahl issued three walks, gave up two singles and a three run homer to Kody Kirkland as the SeaWolves pulled to an eight run lead with six runs in the inning.
Gibbons lined a double to right field in the Baysox eighth, moving Fiorentino to third but after Daigle drew a walk, Ryan Hubele left the bases loaded striking out to end the inning and the Baysox threat of a comeback.
Erie tacked on three more runs in the ninth on home runs from Brent Clevlen and Danilo Sanchez for the final runs of the game.
Gibbons was 3-for-4 with a double and two singles in his second game in Bowie this season. He is expected to get recalled to Baltimore tomorrow.
ON DECK: Erie and Bowie will meet in a doubleheader Friday evening beginning at 5:35 PM. Garrett Olson will start game one for the Baysox and Eric DuBose will take the mound in game two. Bowie is now 10-6 against the SeaWolves this season. Tommorow's game will also feature a special appaerance by Walkaround Elmo and Cookie Monster.
