After rain delay, Thunder beat Akron, 7-1

(Trenton, NJ)- After a 1 hour 55 minute rain delay in the 4th Inning, Trenton came out and scored five runs, including a three-run homer by C Jason Brown, in a 7-1 win over Akron on Thursday night.

Akron (64-41) had a 1-0 lead before the rain delay in the bottom of the fourth. Aeros 3B Pat Osborn delivered an RBI single off Thunder starter Phil Hughes in the 2nd Inning. Hughes didn't factor in the decision as he allowed one run and two hits over four innings with eight strikeouts.

After the delay, RF Vince Faison tripled home 2B Gabe Lopez to tie the game at 1-1. DH Randy Ruiz added an RBI single for a 2-1 lead. Brown capped the inning later with a three-run homer on a 3-0 pitch to put the Thunder ahead by a 5-1 score. Trenton (57-47) scored those runs off Akron reliever Tony Sipp. Sipp (3-1) was charged five runs and six hits in two innings for the loss.

Trenton reliever Jeff Kennard got the win with three scoreless innings. Kennard (3-3) did not allow a hit and struck out two. Ruiz had three hits and two RBI to lead the Thunder offense. Faison added two hits and two RBI.

The series continues on Friday at 7:05 PM. Matt Childers (0-0, 1.80) starts for the Thunder against Akron's Adam Miller (10-5, 3.27).
