Souza nets hat trick as Bears blast Rochester

The BEARS score six times to defeat the Americans 6-1 at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.

HERSHEY opened the scoring at the 13:46 mark of the first period when Mike Souza scored his 11th goal of the season. Jeff Ulmer assisted on the tally to give the BEARS a 1-0 lead. Just 15 seconds later, Josh Olson scored his first goal in a HERSHEY uniform on a Marek Svatos rebound. Martin Hlinka also picked up an assist as the BEARS took a 2-0 lead into intermission. HERSHEY outshot Rochester 12-10 in the first period.

The BEARS continued to pour it on into the second period, as Souza scored his second goal of the game at the 6:19 mark of the period. Ulmer scored his 20th goal of the season to give the BEARS a 4-0 lead at the 13:17 mark before Thomas Vanek scored on a penalty shot at the 18:00 mark. HERSHEY led Rochester after two periods 4-1.

HERSHEY poured it on in the third with goals from Mathieu Darche and Souza's third of the night.

The BEARS return home to face the Philadelphia Phantoms on Saturday night Face-off is set for 7:00 p.m. HERSHEY will also host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
