
Sound Tigers Lose 2-1 To Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost to the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins 2-1 at home Friday. It was the Sound Tigers' first loss at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard since March 4th snapping their streak of four straight wins in the building.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton opened the first period with a goal by Shane Endicott, his 20th of the season, 29 seconds in on the first shot of the game. Ramzi Abid and Colby Armstrong assisted on the play, which put the Penguins ahead 1-0.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton upped the lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal by Tomas Surovy, his 14th marker of the season, off assists from Erik Christensen and Ryan Whitney at the 7:53 mark.
The Sound Tigers were unable to capitalize on their best chance of the opening freame failing to score on a four-minute power play.
After a scoreless second period, the Sound Tigers cut the lead to 2-1 with a four-on-four goal as John Morlang one-timed a Cole Jarrett cross-ice pass for his fifth goal of the season 8:43 into the third period. Chris Campoli also assisted on the play for his 29th helper of the season.
The Sound Tigers pulled goaltender Dieter Kochan in favor of an extra attacker with 57.4 seconds left to play but were unable to tie the score. Kochan finished the game with 22 saves.
Endicott was the first star with a goal, Abid was the second with an assist and Morlang was the third with the lone Sound Tigers goal. The Sound Tigers had a 25-24 shots on goal advantage and were 0 for 4 on the power play. The Penguins were 1 for 5 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goaltender Dany Sabourin made 24 for his second win in as many road games this week.
The Sound Tigers will host the Hartford Wolf Pack tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. before heading out of town for a three-game road trip.
