July 27, 2009 - The South Bend Silver Hawks scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the final game of a three game series, 6-5, from the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Monday night. Anel De Los Santos hit a two run homer, his fourth of the season, to give the Kernels an early 3-0 lead in the second inning.
Kernels starter Tyler Chatwood allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits, walked two and struck out five over five innings in a no-decision effort as Reliever Chris Armstrong (2-2) allowed three runs on three hits over 2/3 inning to take the loss. South Bend starter Brett Moorhouse (5-10) picked up the win, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits over five innings, and Justin Mace struck out two in the ninth for his sixth save.
Matt Crawford and Beau Brooks combined for four of the Kernels seven hits, both going 2-4 with a run scored as Crawford added an RBI. Dwayne Bailey brought home a run on a sacrifice bunt in the second and Angel Castillo went 1-4 with a run scored. Christian Scholl and Kyle Hurst combined for 3.1 innings of scoreless relief out of the Kernel bullpen.
