EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers played in their thirteenth NBA G League regular season game against the Iowa Wolves as they won 124-113 on Monday night. Louis King led the Lakers (9-4), in scoring with 22 points. Javonte Cooke paced the Wolves (3-11), scoring 29 points.
Iowa jumped out to an early nine-point lead before behind a balanced scoring effort. Alex Fudge gave the Lakers a nice seven-point boost off the bench in the first frame. Iowa was led by Josh Minott who put up 10 points on 4-4 from the field. South Bay trailed 22-32 after one.
After missing five games of action, guard Quinndary Weatherspoon contributed to a 15-6 run to open the second frame to retake the lead. The South Bay surge continued into the half, completely flipping the game on its head. The Lakers led after the first half 61-54. Louis King led the Lakers at the half with 15 points.
South bay stormed out of the second half, quickly building on their momentum to take a 19-point lead halfway through the third frame. Bryce Hamilton led the Lakers with 11 in the period. South Bay led going into the final frame, 101-81.
Iowa put together a 17-8 run to start the period to cut the Lakers lead to 11 with eight minutes remaining. The game continued to be tight and tense, but South Bay would never relinquish the lead, closing out the game 124-113.
King put together a final line of 22 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, in 33 minutes. Hamilton added 18 points and three assists while Weatherspoon added 19 points and five assists. off the bench. For the Wolves, Javonte Cook put up 29 points and four rebounds, Leonard Miller scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Minott put up 16 points of his own.
South Bay will face off against the Rip City Remix on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7:00pm from the Chiles Center in Portland, Ore. ###
