Raptors 905 (5-9), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors dropped the first of back-to-back matches against the Maine Celtics (7-7) 103-111 Tuesday evening. NBA vet Justise Winslow secured a career-high 31 points, adding 10 rebounds, and three steals. Drew Peterson led the Celtics to victory putting up a team-high 28 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal.

In the third meeting of the 2023/24 season, the Celtics and 905 began the ball game trading baskets before the home team closed the quarter out with a two-point lead. Maine found their rhythm in the second quarter leading the 905 by as many as 14 before eight straight points from Winslow cut the lead to four going into the break.

Maine continued to build off their momentum in the third quarter, as a balanced scoring effort allowed them to outscore the 905 27-18 in the frame. The Raptors 905 started the quarter strong with an 8-5 run but were unable to hold onto their momentum which resulted in an 11-point deficit with 1:58 minutes to go. In a spectacular shooting performance, Kobi Simmons (15 points, six rebounds, three assists, one block) hit three straight shots from behind the arc to go on a 9-0 run and cut the lead to 2 with 1 minute left. The 905 mounted their comeback bid as the clock ran out but were unable to overcome the Celtics lead.

Kevin Obanor and Javon Freeman-Liberty contributed 11 points and two assists apiece, with six, and five rebounds, respectively. Maine received complementary scoring from DJ Steward who added 26 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocks in the match.

The two teams meet again tomorrow to complete their season series, tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
