South Bay Lakers Announce 2022-23 Schedule

EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers' complete 2022-23 schedule was announced today. South Bay, beginning its 16th campaign in the NBA G League and led by head coach Miles Simon and two-way players Scotty Pippen Jr. and Cole Swider, will open the season at home against the Stockton Kings on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo.

South Bay's schedule features 24 home contests, 11 of which take place on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The league's priority of reducing travel sees the team take only two major road trips; one four-game seven-day trip from Nov. 17-23 and a five-game, 11-day road trip from Feb. 5-15.

The NBA G League is continuing its innovative structure from seasons past which includes two parts: The Showcase Cup followed by the regular season. The Showcase Cup will add an additional two games this year, making up the first 18 games of the season. Following that, a traditional 32-game regular season will ensue.

The Showcase Cup is a competition featuring all 30 teams that will culminate with the Showcase Cup Championship Game at the G League Winter Showcase in Las Vegas. Teams will be separated into four regional pods where they will play against one another in NBA G League markets. The teams with the best-winning percentage in each pod, as well as the four teams with the next-best win-percentage across the league, will go on to play for the Showcase Cup in a single-elimination tournament at the Winter Showcase between Dec. 19-22. The remaining teams that do not qualify for the Championship will each play two games at the Winter Showcase outside of the tournament format.

Following the Showcase Cup, NBA G League team records will reset and starting Dec. 27, a traditional 32-game regular season will be played, putting each team's total games played at 50. The top six teams in each conference will earn a spot in the NBA G League Playoffs.

South Bay will end the regular season with eight of its final 11 games at home, closing out the regular season against the G League Ignite on March 25th.
