
South Bay Drops Road Game in Austin

CEDAR PARK, TX - The South Bay Lakers couldn't grab a win on the second night of their back-to-back as they lost to the Austin Spurs, 128-124, on Thursday night. Pierre Jackson led the way for South Bay (14-22) with 28 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals. The Spurs (21-14) were paced by Quinndary Weatherspoon who finished with 28 points and seven assists.
Jackson was on fire in the first quarter, scoring 14 early points to lead the Lakers to a 37-35 lead after one. South Bay held a 68-58 halftime lead as Devontae Cacok and Jackson combined for 15 points in the second quarter.
Austin took control in the third quarter, behind 11 points from Daulton Hommes, to take a 96-87 lead into the final frame. South Bay fought back in the fourth quarter behind a combined 18 points from Wayne Selden Jr. and David Stockton, but the Spurs were able to do enough to hold on for the victory.
Weatherspoon's game-high 28 points and 23 points from Hommes guided the Spurs to the win, while Luka Samanic grabbed a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double. Keldon Johnson (17 points), Drew Eubanks (16 points, eight rebounds) and Chimezie Metu (12 points, nine rebounds) all scored in double figures for the home team.
Jackson's strong scoring performance paced the Lakers, while Stockton (22 points, three rebounds, nine assists and three steals) and Talen Horton-Tucker (20 points, seven rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block) also had solid nights. Cacok tallied his 20th double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and one steal. Selden Jr. had a strong night off the bench with 16 points and Reggie Hearn also finished in double figures with 10 points.
South Bay will finish out their road trip on Saturday, February 23 when they face the Iowa Wolves at 2:00pm from the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, IA.
