
South Bay Drops Close Game to Stockton

EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers battled back from a 13-point deficit, but ultimately fell short as they lost to the Stockton Kings, 134-127, on Sunday night. Gary Payton II tallied his fourth consecutive double-double for the Lakers (8-6) with 25 points and 10 assists. Isaiah Pineiro led the Kings (9-5) with a 24-point, 16-rebound double-double.
Payton II continued his hot streak with 13 points in the first quarter, but the Kings gained a 44-33 lead through one behind a combined 18 points from Isaiah Canaan and Tyler Ulis. Devontae Cacok nearly tallied a double-double in the second quarter alone with eight points and eight rebounds, but the Kings maintained their lead, 69-62, going into the break.
The Lakers were able to grab the lead through three, 98-96, behind a combined 16 points from Reggie Hearn and Payton II in the third quarter. Gabe Vincent guided the Kings to the comeback win with 14 points in the fourth quarter to secure the victory on the first end of the home-and-home.
Double-doubles from Canaan (25 points, 13 assists, three steals) and Pineiro (24 points, 16 rebounds, six steals) paved the way for Stockton, while Vincent scored 24 points off the bench. Kyle Guy finished with 20 points, six rebounds and eight assists and Kevin Young also tallied double figures with 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Three Lakers finished with double-doubles, including Payton II (25 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists), Cacok (22 points, 12 rebounds, two steals) and Jordan Caroline who scored 12 points with 11 rebounds in his first game of the season. Talen Horton-Tucker had 19 points, five rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and a steal, and Hearn tallied 17 points with two steals. Marcus Allen (12 points) and Andre Ingram (11 points) also scored in double figures off the bench.
South Bay will hit the road for one last game before the MGM Resorts Winter Showcase when they face these same Stockton Kings on Tuesday, December 17 at 7:00pm from the Stockton Arena.
