PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Santa Cruz Warriors (8-8) defeated the Northern Arizona Suns (2-12) 110-100 Sunday afternoon at Findlay Toyota Center, winning their second straight game to get back to .500 and sending the Suns to their 10th consecutive loss.
Alen Smailagic, on assignment from Golden State, led all Sea Dubs with 25 points to match a career-high while connecting on five three-point field goals (5-7 3FG). Golden State two-way guard Ky Bowman narrowly missed triple-double with 18 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.
Juan Toscano-Anderson notched his fifth double-double of the season with a G League career-high 24 points and 14 rebounds, draining four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory. Jeremy Pargo also reached double figures, scoring 15 points.
Northern Arizona was led by Daxter Miles, Jr., who scored 26 points and connected on five 3-pointers (5-9 3FG). Phoenix Suns two-way guard Jared Harper had 21 points, while Tariq Owens recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Santa Cruz got off to a slow start, falling behind 18-7 at the 6:49 mark of the first quarter, but finished the opening frame strong by holding the Suns to four points the rest of the period and trailed 22-19 after 12 minutes.
The Warriors went into halftime with a 48-46 lead and led 73-70 after three quarters, taking control of the game for good with a 16-0 run to go up 91-80 with five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Northern Arizona cut it to seven twice in the final minutes but could get no closer.
Santa Cruz will next travel to Ontario, Calif., to take on the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario Tuesday night at 7 p.m. (PST) before travelling to Las Vegas for the NBA G League Showcase, December 19-22. The Warriors will return to Kaiser Permanente on December 29 for a 6 p.m. tip against the Texas Legends. The first 1,500 fans will receive a Chase Center Snow Globe.
