Grand Rapids Drive News Release

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The Drive (9-8) battled hard Sunday afternoon in front of the home fans but it wasn't enough as they fell to the Red Claws (9-4) but a final of 108-103. Today's loss made it three in a row for Grand Rapids.

It was a back-and-forth contest all game between the two teams, but the last few minutes came down to successful free-throw trips for the visiting team which allowed them to extend their lead to five after the Drive tied the game (100-100) with 30 seconds left.

Celtic assignee Carsen Edwards directed the offense for the Red Claws, finishing with 28 points, 6 steals, 5 assists and 3 rebounds. Celtics two-way player Tremont Waters matched Edwards's 28 points and added 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Kaiser Gates added a solid double-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists.

Big man Donta Hall dominated the court for the home team, tallying up a double-double with 21 points, on 7-11 shooting from the floor, and 11 rebounds. Pistons rookie Sekou Doumbouya also had an impressive performance with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Pistons two-way player Louis King finished with 19 points, shooting 3-4 from the 3-point line, and added 4 rebounds and 2 steals coming off the bench. Todd Withers added 12 points and 2 rebounds to the mix.

Both teams had aggressive defense throughout the game, resulting in the lead changing five times and the game being tied seven times. The Drive shot marginally better than the Red Claws from the field, beyond the 3-point line and the free-throw line, but Maine advanced their lead by knocking down free-throws in the last minutes of the fourth. The Drive's intensity on defense forced the visiting team to the free-throw line, allowing Maine to have 15 free throw attempts compared to just 6 attempts for the Drive.

Both teams will regroup and head to Las Vegas for the 2019 G League Showcase taking place December 19-22. Grand Rapids will be one of four teams competing for the $100,000 grand prize.
