EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers had their best offensive night of the season as they beat the Texas Legends, 152-138, on Tuesday night. Talen Horton-Tucker led the way for the Lakers (10-9) with career highs in points and assists, finishing with a 35-point, 10-assist double-double. Antonius Cleveland paced the Legends (12-9) with 28 points and 13 rebounds.
The Lakers got off to a hot start en route to a 44-31 lead through one, behind 12 points from Horton-Tucker. It was the highest scoring first quarter of the season for South Bay as the home team shot a season-best 70.8 percent in the frame. South Bay scored a season-high in the first half, as they took an 80-62 lead into the break. Devontae Cacok scored 10 points in the second quarter and Horton-Tucker finished the half with 18 points to lead the charge. South Bay also tallied season-highs for a half in field goal percentage (.674), assists (20) and steals (9).
After three, the Lakers held a 115-98 lead, despite 11 points in the third quarter from Dakota Mathias. The Legends made it interesting down the stretch, with Jaylen Hoard scoring 15 points in the final frame, but 13 fourth quarter points from Horton-Tucker sealed the deal as the Lakers ended the decade with a win.
Cleveland's double-double led Texas and Hoard scored a team-high 31 points off the bench. Brandon Fields also finished with a double-double (22 points, 10 assists) and Mathias scored 29 points to go along with eight assists. Josh Reaves also scored in double figures for Texas with 11 points.
Horton-Tucker's career-night (35 points, six rebounds, 10 assists, two steals and one block) guided the Lakers to the win and Cacok tallied his 15th double-double of the year with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Reggie Hearn finished with 18 points, Zach Norvell Jr. and Travis Wear scored 15 points apiece and Kostas Antetokounmpo tallied 12 points as all five starters finished in double figures. Jordan Caroline also reached double digits off the bench with 14 points. South Bay's 152 points were the most scored this season as they shot 63.9 percent from the field, the best shooting percentage for any team in a single game this season.
South Bay will now hit the road to face the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Thursday, January 2 at 4:30pm from the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, SD.
