Memphis, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on their way to crushing Memphis 11-4 Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
The Sounds scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Back-to-back doubles from Eric Munson and Vinny Rottino scored all three runs with Munson knocking in two runs with his double. Nashville later beat up the Redbirds bullpen for seven runs over the final four frames. Laynce Nix had a team-best four hits while Rottino and Brendan Katin each chipped in three hits.
Memphis starter Jaime Garcia was saddled with his second straight loss after giving up four runs on seven hits in five innings of work. The Redbirds scratched out four runs with Nick Stavinoha driving in two runs despite not having a hit in the game. Joe Mather hit his team-best 11th home run of the season with a solo shot in the seventh inning. The Redbirds outfielder has homered in eight of his last 12 games.
Nashville starter Sam Narron earned the win with seven quality innings. The lefty allowed three runs on seven hits to beat Memphis for the second time in a week.
The Redbirds and Sounds play tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. The game will be televised on Comcast Sports South with Steve Selby and Charlie Lea calling the action. Dave Woloshin and Reggie Williams take over the radio broadcast on WHBQ-560 AM. Anthony Reyes will be on the mound for the âBirds while the Sounds counter with lefty Lindsay Gulin.
