Portland Beavers News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - Dee Brown hit a two-run homer as one of four Salt Lake Bees to go deep, and Nick Green beat the Portland Beavers for a third time this season in a 5-4 victory Saturday night at Franklin Covey Field.

Kendry Morales homered for the second game in a row and Matt Brown and Adam Morrissey added solo clouts as all of Salt Lake's offense came off home runs.

Green (4-1) struck out seven and allowed four runs and four hits over his six innings to improve to 3-0 with a 3.32 ERA (7er, 19.0ip) in his three starts against Portland (24-23) this season.

Darren O'Day struck out three and retired each of the six batters he faced over the final two innings to notch his third save for the Bees (33-14).

Peter Ciofrone continued to impress for the Beavers, who were limited to four hits, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a two-run homer, his third in his last three games. Ciofrone extended his hitting streak to nine games and is batting .457 (16-for-35) with four home runs, three doubles, 10 RBIs and 13 runs scored during that span.

The Beavers took a two-run lead in the first, getting an RBI triple by Chase Headley, who scored one batter later on a sacrifice fly by Brian Myrow. But Morales and Dee Brown homered off starter Clay Hensley in the second to give the Bees the lead, while Matt Brown and Morrissey later hit solo homers off Dirk Hayhurst to push the advantage to 5-2 by the fifth.

Ciofrone's homer off Green brought the Beavers to within 5-4 in the sixth.

Hensley (0-1), making his first start and his seventh appearance of his major league rehab stint with the Beavers, gave up three runs (2 earned) and two hits - both home runs - over two innings for the loss.

Hayhurst struck out seven over his four innings, the longest relief stint for the Beavers this season.

The series continues at 1:05 p.m. (Pacific) on Sunday.
