
Sounders FC Signs Midfielder Peter Kingston

RENTON, WASH. - Sounders FC today announced that it has signed midfielder Peter Kingston to a First Team contract through the 2026 season, with club options through June 2027 and the 2027-2028 season. The Sounders FC Academy product joins the Rave Green after progressing through multiple levels of the Seattle soccer landscape, most recently featuring with Tacoma Defiance.
"We're excited to sign Peter to the First Team and are proud of how he's shown continual growth within our system," said Sounders FC General Manager & Chief Soccer Officer Craig Waibel. "He is another strong example of the development pathway we've built at this club. We're looking forward to seeing Peter continue that progression with our group."
Kingston, 24, signed with Tacoma prior to the 2025 season, making 26 appearances (24 starts) for the MLS NEXT Pro side last year, scoring two goals and adding six assists. He also appeared in all four of Tacoma's 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches, scoring a goal against the Oakland Roots as well as appearing in one match First Team match against Real Salt Lake (October 11, 2025). The midfielder has started all three of his appearances for Defiance in 2026 and has played in three matches for Seattle, starting against San Jose (March 15, 2026) and assisting both goals against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup action (March 18, 2026).
Prior to signing with Tacoma, Kingston played three years collegiately at Seattle University and two years with Washington. As a fifth-year senior in 2024, he appeared in 21 matches (19 starts) for the Huskies, scoring six goals and adding five assists. In 2023, Kingston recorded two goals and five assists while appearing in 18 matches (17 starts) for Washington. The Kirkland, Washington native appeared in 45 matches (38 starts) for Seattle U from 2020-2022, scoring two goals and adding five assists while helping the Redhawks win the 2021 Western Athletic Conference Tournament title.
"Peter has earned this contract through the work he's put in every day," said Sounders FC Head Coach Brian Schmetzer. "He's been consistent in training, taken coaching well and made the most of his opportunities with both Tacoma Defiance and the First Team. He's stepped in with confidence when called upon and shown he belongs at this level. We're excited to fully integrate him into our group and see how he can continue to help the team."
Kingston also played for Seattle's local USL League Two team Ballard FC from 2022-2024, making 50 appearances (45 starts) while scoring 10 goals and adding 22 assists. He helped the club win the 2023 USL League Two championship and Northwest Division in 2023 and 2024, scoring the game-winning goal in the 2023 championship match. As a product of the Sounders FC Academy, Kingston won the U-17 2018 Generation adidas Cup, the 2017-2018 USSDA Championship and the 2016 Youdan Trophy.
Sounders FC continues its 2026 MLS regular-season campaign on Saturday, April 4 on the road against the Houston Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium (5:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, iHeartMedia Seattle, El Rey 1360 AM) before traveling to Liga MX side Tigres UANL for the first leg of its 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinals on Wednesday, April 8 at Estadio Universitario (6:00 p.m. PT / FS2, TUDN, ConcacafGO).
